MEMPHIS, TN — A murder suspect attempting to hide from U.S. marshals was arrested Tuesday when he fell through the ceiling as agents searched a residence.
Deario Wilkerson, 20, was wanted on charges of first-degree murder and reckless endangerment-deadly weapon in connection with the April 2 slaying of Troy Cunningham in Memphis, according to a news release from the U.S. Marshals Service.
The Shelby County District Attorney’s Office says Wilkerson is one of three suspects charged in the death of Cunningham. The suspects are accused of stealing a gun from Cunningham, then shooting him in the back of the head as he tried to run away.
Stray gunfire also wounded a woman who was a passenger in a vehicle as it drove past during the shooting, prosecutors say.
On Tuesday, federal agents, Shelby County sheriff’s deputies and Memphis police officers surrounded a home in Memphis where Wilkerson reportedly was hiding in the attic. As agents searched the residence, he fell through the ceiling. He was uninjured and taken into custody.
The two other suspects in the shooting already were in custody and are facing charges.
